One of the UK's leading Energy and Waste management firm currently require a management accountant to join their finance team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the job holder will be a Management Accountant within the finance team, taking primary responsibility for several entities within the business. This will involve typical monthly activities, such as preparing relevant journal entries, ensuring management accounts are prepared on a timely basis, ensuring intercompany invoicing is up to date and that prepayment and accruals are recorded correctly. In addition to this the jobholder will be expected to business partner with relevant parts of the business and will be a key liaison between the finance department and operational teams. Also, the individual will be the main contact in the finance department for our complex municipal waste agreements, ensuring that the accounting for these is recorded correctly each month, and invoicing is up to date and has been calculated in line with the underlying contracts.

Specific Duties:

  • Timely preparation of monthly management accounts for a specific business unit, including preparation and posting of key monthly journals, including ensuring un-invoiced income is accrued correctly, and the accounts system is reconciled to the weighbridge system.
  • Leading the monthly reviews with operations teams and management for the entities being looked after. Business partnering with operational teams across the business.
  • Key finance contact for the administrators within the councils with whom we have complex waste management contracts. Duties include:
  • preparing the invoices for all such contracts in a timely fashion;
  • regular reconciliation of deliveries between the weighbridge system and council records;
  • ensuring price uplifts are applied appropriately per the contracts; and any other reporting requirements required by the councils from time to time.
  • Taking the lead to ensure invoicing is completed across all business units, including intercompany invoicing.
  • Monitoring of the weighbridge system on a regular basis to ensure tickets are being recorded correctly.
  • Ensuring intercompany accounts balance each month end, and invoicing is up to date and recorded in line with relevant intercompany agreements.
  • Assisting with the year end audit and statutory accounts preparation in conjunction with the Group Reporting Manager.
  • Assisting the Senior Management Accountants throughout the annual budgeting process and with quarterly forecasting
  • Ensure strict conformity at all times to company policies and procedures and ensure these are constantly reviewed to check they are in line with best practice.
  • Assist with ad hoc project work including the transition to a new suite of integrated systems to automate the accounts function. Assist in planning, monitoring the progress of and reporting on specific aspects of the project both internally and externally.
  • Preparation of payment runs, and ensuring new suppliers are recorded on the system in line with company procedures.

About the role

Countingup the business is too large and complex to be suitable for Countingup the product (at least for now).  We therefore require completion of many of the traditional accounting and bookkeeping tasks across various tools and software.  This includes day-to-day bookkeeping, monthly payroll and journaling, quarterly VAT submissions and completing year-end.

Countingup is looking to grow significantly over the coming years - reporting to the COO, the role will also involve strategic projects.  Looking to continuously improve internal processes, leveraging technology to ensure we continue to work efficiently and effectively.  Traditional accounting will therefore only be part of the role.  The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with an interest in performance improvement, business strategy and analytics.  

There will be a continuous need to challenge ways of working and look for improvements.  The aim will be to improve the performance of the business and ensure spend is aligned to the business goals.  There will be the opportunity to shape the role in line with your skillset, interests and professional development ambitions.

  • Complete regular bookkeeping tasks
  • Complete payroll, journal entries, quarterly VAT submissions, year-end
  • Improve our accounting and financial management infrastructure (review current ways of working and software and suggest improvements)
  • Analyse data to establish what’s working, what’s not and what to do about it
  • Work with the COO to find and implement performance improvement projects (big or small)
  • Produce clear and concise outputs that speak for themselves
  • Be flexible and open to working with other parts of the business to add value.  Your expertise (accounting and analytics) will be valuable to the rest of Countingup and our product development

Description

One of the UK's leading Energy and Waste management firm currently require a management accountant to join their finance team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the job holder will be a Management Accountant within the finance team, taking primary responsibility for several entities within the business. This will involve typical monthly activities, such as preparing relevant journal entries, ensuring management accounts are prepared on a timely basis, ensuring intercompany invoicing is up to date and that prepayment and accruals are recorded correctly. In addition to this the jobholder will be expected to business partner with relevant parts of the business and will be a key liaison between the finance department and operational teams. Also, the individual will be the main contact in the finance department for our complex municipal waste agreements, ensuring that the accounting for these is recorded correctly each month, and invoicing is up to date and has been calculated in line with the underlying contracts.

Specific Duties:

  • Timely preparation of monthly management accounts for a specific business unit, including preparation and posting of key monthly journals, including ensuring un-invoiced income is accrued correctly, and the accounts system is reconciled to the weighbridge system.
  • Leading the monthly reviews with operations teams and management for the entities being looked after. Business partnering with operational teams across the business.
  • Key finance contact for the administrators within the councils with whom we have complex waste management contracts. Duties include:
  • preparing the invoices for all such contracts in a timely fashion;
  • regular reconciliation of deliveries between the weighbridge system and council records;
  • ensuring price uplifts are applied appropriately per the contracts; and any other reporting requirements required by the councils from time to time.
  • Taking the lead to ensure invoicing is completed across all business units, including intercompany invoicing.
  • Monitoring of the weighbridge system on a regular basis to ensure tickets are being recorded correctly.
  • Ensuring intercompany accounts balance each month end, and invoicing is up to date and recorded in line with relevant intercompany agreements.
  • Assisting with the year end audit and statutory accounts preparation in conjunction with the Group Reporting Manager.
  • Assisting the Senior Management Accountants throughout the annual budgeting process and with quarterly forecasting
  • Ensure strict conformity at all times to company policies and procedures and ensure these are constantly reviewed to check they are in line with best practice.
  • Assist with ad hoc project work including the transition to a new suite of integrated systems to automate the accounts function. Assist in planning, monitoring the progress of and reporting on specific aspects of the project both internally and externally.
  • Preparation of payment runs, and ensuring new suppliers are recorded on the system in line with company procedures.
