This position will provide engineering and technical support for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT), Undersea Warfare (USW) Electromagnetic Systems Department (Code 34). The candidate will perform engineering functions in support of Communication Systems and Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare (EMW) programs. Code 34 serves as the Navy’s principal activity for developing, acquiring, installing, modernizing and maintaining the world’s most capable USW Electromagnetic systems including Antennas, Periscopes, Electronic Warfare, Communications, Electro-Optics Systems, and Electromagnetic Compatibility. Code 34 develops, tests and fields novel communications systems in support of unmanned undersea, surface and air vehicles, buoys, nodes and seafloor systems.
Primary responsibilities include 3D modeling of mechanical components and assemblies, performing stress analysis calculations, designing arrangement and installation assemblies for Naval platforms. The Engineer will design, analyze and document packages for equipment installation onboard submarines including structural, mechanical, and hydrodynamic features. This includes modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are used for design data processing and for turning the design into a fabricated product. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Model Based Systems Engineering ( MBSE)/ MBSE Tool usage experience preferred.
The candidate shall assess and analyze Code 34 Communications System technical failures and review operation and maintenance data provided from the Naval Sea Logistics Center’s Open Architecture Retrieval System(OARS), Fleet casualty reports (CASREPs), vendor depot records, repair facilities records, and installation failures. The candidate shall provide analysis of technical failures and recommend corrective actions in the Problem Report (PR) or Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS). The candidate shall perform investigations and analysis on Communication Systems physical hardware and design, and make recommendations for system modifications and updates, production or pre-planned product improvements, and propose solutions to technical problems identified. The candidate shall support Technical Drawing Preparation and Modification Services, shall maintain configuration control of technical drawing packages.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor's level degree in Mechanical Engineering.
3 years of professional experience.
U.S. Undersea Warfare (USW) Electromagnetic Systems warfare system experience a plus.
U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance required.
The individual should be goal-oriented and have a strong work ethic.
The ability to multi-task and work in a team environment is essential.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
