Revit Technician

RSK Land Development and Engineering Ltd (LDE), part of the RSK Group of companies, provides a complete engineering design service for residential and commercial developer clients over a diverse range of projects. LDE, formed in 2003, now employs over seventy engineering staff with many years experience in the assessment, design and construction of major development projects.

The team typically evaluate land use constraints in support of the site acquisition and planning process, followed by the production of working drawings for the civil and structural engineering design for schemes that can vary from low-rise units to inner city regeneration sites, including basements and multi-storey construction of reinforced concrete or structural steel.

LDE is now looking for an experienced Revit technician to join the structural engineering design team in Hemel Hempstead.

Comprising twenty staff, from Director to Graduate Engineer level, you will be joining a vibrant team that operates in the fast-paced environment of the construction industry.

Do you have what it takes to succeed as a member of our team?

You must have strong analytical skills and bring an organised and accurate approach to the 3D modelling work that you will be carrying out. You will already be competent in the use of Revit and preferably have experience of collaborative working on BIM compliant schemes operating within the “Common Data Environment”. Prior experience working on residential development schemes would be a benefit. It is also essential that you are comfortable working in a team environment where communication, mainly within the business but occasionally with external stake holders, is absolutely key to our success.

You will be encouraged and supported to fulfil your potential, including continuing development in the use of 3D modelling software; if you flourish under pressure you will benefit from rapid progression within the team. Whilst your work in the structural design team is by its nature predominantly office based, we will commit to enabling you to visit our live construction sites as often as possible where you will be able to witness your modelling work taking shape in the real world. You will also attend team meetings and workshops where you will benefit from time spent face to face with clients, architects and other consultants that you will be working closely with on our variety of interesting design projects.

You will work as an integral part of our Design and Planning team based in Forest Row, East Sussex. This team is responsible for optimising land development opportunities and undertaking the full architectural design process for our new-build residential schemes. We convert these opportunities into quality places where people choose to live.

As Architectural Designer you will be involved in producing layouts and house design drawings using CAD software and manual drawing techniques. You will have the creativity to shape innovative and unique designs whilst ensuring that all layouts and drawings are compliant with industry codes and legal standards. You will be communicating with external consultants who support the application design process, prepare technical reports and Design and Access Statements (DAS) to support planning applications. Together, with the preparation of presentation material to Parish Councils and other Stakeholder organisations for public exhibitions and pre application meetings. You will be seeing the design development process through to the compilation of packages for submission of residential development application proposals to Local Planning Authorities.

You will work closely with all members of the Design and Planning team and you will be involved with all stages of the design process from pre planning through to the submission of applications and ultimate decision by the Local Planning Authority. Working closely with our In house Architect you will develop presentation material, drawing by hand and in electronic media, for layouts, house designs, street scenes and brochures amongst other documents.

This is a varied and challenging role that will provide the successful candidate with excellent opportunities for onward development/progression

The preferred candidate will ideally hold an architectural degree and have previous residential design post qualification experience, although candidates with demonstrable experience in a similar role without a professional qualification or currently studying towards one will also be strongly considered. You will be a highly creative individual with good spatial design awareness with previous experience working with a residential developer (housebuilder) and/or architectural team. You will have the ability to prepare architectural drawings, by hand and electronically in AutoCAD and Photoshop and/or InDesign. Some 3D modelling experience would also be beneficial however is not essential. In addition, you will have excellent knowledge of planning policy including supplementary planning documents (SPD), such as inclusive design and access, along with a good understanding of building regulations and other regulatory requirements.

OUR CENTRAL ENGINEERING SERVICES BUSINESS

Central Engineering Services is an in-house team providing engineering support to the whole of the wider Construction & Investments Division. It acts as an internal consultant so that customers pay for the services provided based on agreed hourly charge-out rates. A key focus of the team is the provision of a high quality service which exceeds customer requirements leading to strong relationships with all parts of the business and generating repeat work.

The services provided by Central Engineering Services include alternative solutions, value engineering, buildability and problem/defect resolution including specification compliance issues. The team also provides design and design checking services for a full range of temporary works requirements from excavations and working platforms to formwork, falsework & scaffolding. Site based TWCs & TWSs are also assisted through participation in technical reviews, site visits where required and audits to check compliance with the temporary works procedure.

THE ROLE

As a junior level Cad Technician you will be integral to the existing draughting team, working towards successfully delivering technical drawings in for a wider team of engineers, to clearly convey design intent to clients across a broad spectrum of projects within the Galliford Try business.

Projects include major highways schemes, bridges, and structures, building construction, environmental and water, including ongoing works within our coveted framework arrangments. You will be expected to liaise with the site teams to gather and qualify information relating to designs and to issue drawings where necessary.

This role will involve hands-on learning in a fast-paced environment where you will develop and progress your technical knowledge up to being able to work independently in producing clear and concise temporary and permanent works drawing output to the quality required by the current CES CAD standards.

In delivering high quality, easily readable drawings to our site-based clients, CES use AutoCAD as our main draughting tool, and while drawings are predominantly 2D due to the nature of our work, opportunities to use 3D visualisation are growing rapidly. Occasionally, site attendance is required to take measurements and surveys existing features to assist the creation of more accurate design and output.

With current Covid-19 restrictions, you will be expected to have long periods of time lone working, or working at a distance from others so must be able to demonstrate your ability to focus oneself into the task at hand whilst looking ahead for jobs-in-pipeline to ensure your working time is best spent. Microsoft Teams plays a crucial part in communications and you must be comfortable talking with other team members in calls.

You will;

  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment.
  • Strive to enhance your own technical knowledge, interrogating information given to provide the best possible solution.
  • Have an eye for detail, paying attention to the presentation of information.
  • Work towards the production of high quality, clear and concise construction drawings.
  • Assist in maintaining in-house engineering library in an orderly state including updating of catalogue

YOU

  • GCSEs at minimum grade C in Mathematics, Physics and English Language.
  • Art, Graphic Design or Resistant Materials at GCSE may be useful as drawings skills and understanding of materials are key aspects of the role.
  • Knowledge / experience of using computer aided draughting software, in particular AutoCAD would be beneficial.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people within the company.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise work and manage a number of tasks concurrently
  • Good team worker but also able to work under own initiative.
  • Hardworking, conscientious with good attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and able to work under pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines.
