POSITION PURPOSE: The Freight Lead will assist the Freight Team Supervisor in overseeing operations of the Freight Team. They will provide outstanding service to Customers and drive the sales and profitability of the store. Freight Leads are responsible for receiving product into the store and ensuring “Grand Opening Day Readiness” each day. They meet this goal by unloading and inspecting the quantity and quality of merchandise, stocking shelves, organizing aisles and overheads, building end caps and staging merchandise for promotions. With direction from the Department Supervisor, the Freight Lead ensures the receipt of all products into the store, entering of information about these products into the store’s computer system, execution of inventory management and pack-down and as directed or needed pack-out. Freight Leads ensure merchandise is received, sorted, and staged within the store using safe and correct procedures from Distribution Centres, Less Than Truckload carriers, Parcel Carriers and directly from vendors. The Freight Lead must have a thorough knowledge of Home Depot’s Handling Hazardous Materials program and will be responsible for the completion of all required Handling Hazardous Material tasks. Freight Leads, along with Freight Associates are responsible for ensuring receiving is clean, organized and clear of pallets and trash. Under the direction of the Freight Supervisor, Freight Leads will direct the activities of Freight associates. Freight Leads must have excellent communication skills and keep associates motivated by leading by example. Freight leads customarily work flexible schedules, requiring availability and shifts could be scheduled on any day of the week.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Walk Department from the Customer Experience perspective daily, ensuring Grand Opening Day readiness, ad execution (per Playbook) and flyer readiness.
• Ensure all Home Depot Standard Operating Procedures and policies in the Code of Conduct are communicated and adhered to by Associates.
• Responsible for overseeing work activity within department of responsibility when required
• Motivate Freight team Associates and assist with their development. Ensure all product from receiving area is brought out onto sales floor and in the correct bay and aisle, staged and ready for pack out.
• Ensure all overheads are neatly and safely organized
• Stock shelves to achieve 100% in-stock and overhead organizational plans, maintain aisle cleanliness and shoppability and signage in coordination with internal partners
• Fulfill the duties of a Freight Associate when required by business needs.
• Maintain cleanliness and ensure all trash / pallets are removed from receiving.
• Develop and maintain strong business partnerships with internal and external partners to ensure that merchandise is optimally staged, ordering issues are promptly addressed, etc.
• Manage clearance product, ensure damaged merchandise is identified and handled appropriately and complete negative on-hand investigations
• Prepare for yearly inventory
• Train D38 Freight Associates to complete all job responsibilities and tasks, acquire required product and departmental knowledge, and to deliver on customer service commitments.
• Provide supplemental support to secondary departments as necessary and cooperate with Associates, Supervisors and Managers, and complete work activities as assigned.
• Under the guidance of the Freight Supervisor, manage Associate’s performance and provide input regarding performance appraisals, professional development and promotion of associates.
• Ensure that all Asset Protection standards and protocols are clearly communicated and followed, training is completed, proper PPE is available and used, and ensure a safe and clean working and shopping environment is maintained and Associates are held accountable to address unsafe work or customer practices
• Ensures that aisles and walking surfaces are safe.
• May be asked to represent the store as a key carrying/manager-on-duty (e.g., opening and closing store, signing for deliveries and price reductions, handling store level complaints in person or over phone)
• Adhere to work schedule, and follow all work and safety policies and support guidelines outlined in the Standards of Performance.

The Role

THE ASSOCIATE ROLE

Working closely with Research Associates and Partners, the primary roles of the Associate are to:

▪ Execution of search assignments brought into the firm by Partners. Play an integral role in the search process - from the time when an assignment is awarded to the firm to the placement of a successful candidate with the client’s company.

▪ Assist in presentation and preparation work for competitive business bidding

. ▪ Provide support in the execution of search assignments, taking responsibilities for the research, candidate communication and candidate development elements of the assignment

. ▪ Assist in building the knowledge base of the firm, in particular to ensure that all information obtained during the course of an assignment is available to others.

▪ To be involved in training and mentoring of Junior Associates.

Key Accountabilities

The Associate will work under the general direction of a Partner to execute a search assignment through:

▪ Developing a search strategy to locate the most suitable candidates for the position. Besides using KF’s internal candidate database, Searcher, most times, this would involve researching appropriate organizations to locate individuals who meet the client’s requirements and who have demonstrated patterns of accomplishments and success.

▪ Conducting research to develop a thorough understanding of client’s organization. This includes review of relevant media including printed materials and on-line websites; interviewing and profiling senior executives of client’s organization; and work with client to develop detailed position specification for the job.

▪ Mapping qualified candidates from the source list which is developed by either the Associate or Research Associates through various means such as networking, direct inquiry, Searcher database. The Associate will also conduct telephone interviews actively to prospect and qualify candidates.

▪ Screening candidates to evaluate their suitability further. This includes in-depth conversations to identify candidates’ accomplishments, strengths, weaknesses and potential as well as short-listing them for presentation to clients. Secondary interviews are usually conducted by partner-in-charge of the assignment.

▪ Presenting and recommending short-listed candidates to clients for consideration. This includes the preparation of a confidential report on the career history of the candidate, complete with a comprehensive appraisal of candidates to client. This is usually vetted by the partner-in-charge of the assignment.

▪ Participating in progress meetings with clients and assisting in reporting on the search status. This is usually done under the guidance and supervision of a more senior consultant and / or partner-in-charge.

▪ Helping to facilitate the communication between client and candidate – conducting reference checks; verifying stated information by candidate; and assisting in all other related aspects of completing the employment offer to the candidate.

▪ Helping to identify new and improved methodologies in the execution process so as to enable the firm to deliver the highest quality of service to its clients.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have minimum two years of professional recruitment experience and ideally, will have had exposure to one or more industries or functions. In addition to having excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, oral, written and listening, the candidate must possess the ability to manage multiple projects effectively is most important. The ideal candidate must be self confident and self motivated, independent, analytical and hardworking. Successful candidates must be a team player. He/She will take direction well, be detail oriented and able to work well under deadline. The Associate should have strong time management and organization skills and be highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

The successful Associate will also possess:

▪ “Street Smarts.” The ability to quickly discern the criteria most important for candidate success in a particular search, listen to and process candidate information in such a way as to determine likely fit with the opportunity and quickly “close” the conversation to specific next steps or additional source or candidate identification.

▪ Entrepreneurial Spirit. Works with minimal direction; is a self-starter. Provides meaningful feedback and when appropriate offers value added suggestions for approaching the search in a different way.

▪ Efficiency and Need for Closure. Work with multiple managers and prioritize task effectively. The ability to understand that Korn Ferry is a business and needs to complete searches quickly and at the highest quality standards, while making a profit consistent with the value delivered.

Description

Garden Centre Associates are service oriented individuals in our Garden Centre. All roles will involve the constant engagement with customers and moving throughout the department or store to help customers and fellow associates. In addition, all roles within the garden centre department can expect exposure to environmental elements (such as dust, plant allergens, weather conditions, etc.).

Opportunities in the department include:

Showroom Sales Associate

  • Product knowledge and Sales for seasonal department items, such as BBQs, Lawnmowers, Lawn and Garden products.


Garden Expert

  • Candidates should have strong knowledge of plants & gardening (horticulture) to inform customers about plant selection and care


Watering/Merchandising

  • Watering plants and tasking in the outdoor garden centre (early morning and evening shifts)
  • Candidates should be comfortable holding a hose and watering can, lifting plants, soil and other product


Tasking/Recovery

  • Heavy Lifting, Loading and merchandising product
  • Candidates should be comfortable with lifting merchandise for customers on carts and into vehicles
  • Utilize computer terminals and/or Home Depot portable phone to check inventory, look-up orders and notify customers when product is ready for pick-up
  • Candidates should be comfortable lifting merchandise to organize for customer pick up


Note - First Aid Certification considered an asset
