Before the lockdown restrictions, she would often visit the local boating lake with the help of her care team.
Our service user has a visual impairment and is unable to communicate verbally. She will indicate how she is feeling by using expressions and emotions, such as laughing, smiling, crying, and changing her vocal range.
Clapping, smiling, and reaching out are some of the ways she will initiate conversation, as well as eye pointing and facial expressions to indicate her wants and needs.
You will need to ensure you become familiar with her forms of communication to enable to you to respond to her wants and needs.
Ideally you will have experience of using reassurance and distraction techniques effectively.
