The Position
We are seeking a talented, creative designer to support the creative team throughout the creative process, from concept design to producing creative assets for marketing collateral, websites and social campaigns. You'll thrive working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with a team full of passionate people supporting you as you develop your skills as a designer.
You'll be passionate about joining our journey, your life-long learning mentality will drive you to become an expert in your field and deliver industry-leading creative products as part of ORCHA Health.
Initially, the candidate can expect to undertake tasks to support the marketing team, producing graphical content for social campaigns, e-marketing, PowerPoint presentations, sales documents, industry reports.
Training/mentorship will be provided to support and develop the skills below.

Based in our Manchester office, you will play a key role in a growing, highly-visible, and critically important Design, UX and UI department within the company.

  • Leading on efforts to implement consistent, high-quality, and user-centric experiences across our full product portfolio
  • Analysing user requirements and product strategies to conceive and design world-class user interfaces for a range of products that run on desktop, mobile, touch-screen kiosk, and slot machines.

  • Deep understanding of the principles of good Information Architecture, Interaction Design and Visual Design (typography, layout, use of colour and spacing, responsive design etc.)
  • Understanding of modern UI implementation approaches i.e. component-based composability & reusability
  • Skilled in major graphics design software, prototyping software and tools (e.g. inDesign, Illustrator, XD)

Position

Under the directions of the Lead Level Designer you will be working with the other Level Designers and the Environment team to create modular and bespoke locations for the Star Citizen Persistent Universe (PU).

Responsibilities

  • Under the directions of the Live Game Director and Lead Level Designer you will be working closely with the Environment team to design and whitebox layouts for our bespoke space/surface locations.
  • Designing layouts for rooms and components to be used with our procedural tech as well as using said tech to generate layouts for both space and surface locations.
  • Working with the Lead Level Designer and the Environment team to whitebox prototypes for modular components and common elements for our locations.
  • Working with the Environment team to ensure a balance between gameplay requirements and visual direction.
  • Contribute to design discussions and help solving various design challenges within the games’ setting.
  • Address feedback from user-testing, the development team and design management.
  • Implement location markup (E.g. room systems).

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional game production experience.
  • Good knowledge of the game development process.
  • Previous experience creating realistic and believable locations for AAA games.
  • Experience working on at least 1 large scale, 3D title.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Ability to create design proposals for peer reviews.
  • Focused, motivated and effective on all tasks through completion.
  • Positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a good organizational and problem-solving skill.
  • Ability to complete tasks within given time constraints.
  • Experience with current 3D game engines.

Cloud Imperium is looking for a Designer to help lead the effort in creating FPS core gameplay systems for Star Citizen.

Covid-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new FPS features for Squadron 42 and the Persistent Universe, working closely with the lead FPS designer and game director to ensure Chris Roberts’ vision becomes reality
  • Be the 'go to' person for the implementation of complex systems that stretch the capabilities of the engine and challenge the expectations of players
  • Be a leader within the department for cleanly implementing content with our designer tools
  • Develop prototypes that clearly articulate the vision of the features for which you are responsible
  • Pitch concepts, designs, and full-proposals to project leads
  • Partner with cross-disciplinary teams to execute game systems
  • Use expert data analysis skills to plot how the game is being used, draw conclusions, and make recommendations for how to improve the experience
  • Identify and resolve conflicts with other disciplines in a way that best meets the design goals of the project
  • Review work at various stages of implementation to ensure the execution matches the vision, goals, and quality requirements
  • Routinely collect feedback from user-testing, the development team, and design management
  • Identify solutions to the problems expressed that won’t negatively impact other systems or mechanics
  • Create and refine gameplay mechanics
  • Contribute to tools and workflow development, highlighting bottlenecks and suggesting areas where tools could improve workflow
  • Help mentor junior designers and aid them in their professional development
