The M6 between junctions 21a and 26 is a key strategic route carrying around 120,000 vehicles daily between Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Congestion and unreliable journey times are currently experienced at busy periods and traffic is predicted to grow. The scheme will relieve congestion and smooth the flow of traffic, improving safety and journey times.

The Smart Motorway solution is a technology driven approach to tackling the most congested parts of the motorway network, improving journey reliability by controlling the flow and speed of traffic. They also support the economy by providing much needed capacity on the busiest motorways, while maintaining safety for road users and those who work on the roads.

The design features of the scheme include:

  • Variable mandatory speed limits

The role will include supporting the Technology Manager in all aspects of electrical delivery, while specifically ensuring the requirements of the Electrical Authorised Person are always followed on the project.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with requirements for Electrical Safety Operating Procedures as set out in OPS-H-1000
  • Overseeing installation, commissioning, operating and maintaining LV electrical systems
  • Project electrical safety.
  • The issuing and cancelling of the Costain LV Electrical Safety Operating Procedures.
  • Prior to any electrical sub-contractor carrying out works on site, the Electrical Authorised Person shall review and approve all LV electrical sub-contractors and the personal that will be working onsite carrying out any works
  • Contributing to the programme to ensure Electrical Works requirements and timescales are included
  • Co-ordination of multiple contractors and other stakeholders, in particular those which incorporate element(s) of electrical works
  • Ensuring all electrical works are constructed and tested in accordance with the works information
  • Reviewing and approving RAMs that include working with installation, commissioning, operating, and maintaining LV electrical systems. Contribution to ensure adherence to quality processes including ITPs, MARs, etc
  • Managing the strict adherence of project safety, Health and Environmental processes and requirements at all times

Person Specification:

  • Be electrically qualified with a recognised electrical apprenticeship of training and/or an industry recognised electrical qualification within the following ranges, Degree, HND/HNC, OND/ONC, BTech 4 or 3, C&G, NVQ at Level 3 or above
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of working in a highly collaborative and team orientated environment
  • The ability to manage and control tasks of a team and sub-contractors
  • Be familiar with highways equipment, systems and installations for which appointment is sought
  • Have successfully completed an Electrical Authorised Persons training course approved by the Authorising Engineer and repeat it at intervals not exceeding three years (recognise training provided by PPL and Develop Training)
  • Have previous experience in the development, implementation, monitoring, administering, and auditing of electrical safe systems of work
  • Demonstrate the use of electrical control documentation and application of Electrical Safety Operating Procedures
  • Have good knowledge of the IET Wiring Regulations and hold the current City and Guilds Level 3 Award in the requirements for electrical installations BS7671
  • Hold a current HEA ECS Electricians card and portfolio
  • Hold a current First Aid At Work certificate
  • Other training such as IPAF, TWS, TWC, AP, First Aid, etc to be listed on CV

ROLEOVERVIEW

AsaMaintenance Technicianyou are responsible for residents’ satisfaction by providing an impeccable maintenance service and day-to-day upkeep of the development. My client are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Electrician on a static basis. This is a permanent role working shift which vary between days and nights. A key member of the maintenance team responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding and repair to all building services. Ensuring high levels of compliance as well as Health & Safety at all times. The post holder will have a proven track record working on Facilities Management contracts.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Undertake Reactive and PPM works to all electrical plant - including minor works, fault finding and repairs.
  • Complete Minor works Certificates to BS7671 standards.
  • Supervising & monitoring of sub-contractors works whilst they are on site undertaking maintenance.
  • Ensure that plant faults & defects are remedied in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all relevant paperwork is completed regarding PPM, reactive and breakdown works.
  • Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are always prepared and used to ensure safe working practices.
  • Develop a good working relationship with all members of staff, subcontractors and the end client.
  • Keep all plant rooms in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate. Ensure an awareness and compliance to the contractual KPI's/SLA's.
  • Ensure CAFM system is kept up to date and that PPM / reactive tickets are closed out with accurate data captured.
  • Undertake lone working when and where required, subject to passing satisfactory training.
  • Arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns.
  • Carry out any other additional tasks as directed by the account management team.

Required Qualifications, Skills or Experience:

  • An Electrician who is qualified to at least one of the below:
  • Be time served in a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • City & Guilds Parts A&B
  • City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & Part 2
  • City & Guilds 2330 Part 1 & Part 2
  • NVQ 2330 Level 2 & Level 3
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Due to the nature of the environment it is essential that you have the ability to pass the standard security vetting process. This will include a criminal records check.

Salary for this role is up to £34,000 as well as a shift allowance dependant on experience. Generous pension and holiday also as part of the package.

The M6 between junctions 21a and 26 is a key strategic route carrying around 120,000 vehicles daily between Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Congestion and unreliable journey times are currently experienced at busy periods and traffic is predicted to grow. The scheme will relieve congestion and smooth the flow of traffic, improving safety and journey times.

The Smart Motorway solution is a technology driven approach to tackling the most congested parts of the motorway network, improving journey reliability by controlling the flow and speed of traffic. They also support the economy by providing much needed capacity on the busiest motorways, while maintaining safety for road users and those who work on the roads.

The design features of the scheme include:

  • Variable mandatory speed limits
  • Driver information including lane availability provided through a mixture of gantries and cantilever signs
  • Queue detection and automatic signalling system, which provides queue protection and congestion management
  • Comprehensive low light pan-tilt-zoom CCTV coverage
  • Refuge areas where drivers can stop in an emergency

The role will include supporting the Technology Manager in all aspects of electrical delivery, while specifically ensuring the requirements of the Electrical Authorised Person are always followed on the project.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with requirements for Electrical Safety Operating Procedures as set out in OPS-H-1000
  • Overseeing installation, commissioning, operating and maintaining LV electrical systems
  • Project electrical safety.
  • The issuing and cancelling of the Costain LV Electrical Safety Operating Procedures.
  • Prior to any electrical sub-contractor carrying out works on site, the Electrical Authorised Person shall review and approve all LV electrical sub-contractors and the personal that will be working onsite carrying out any works
  • Contributing to the programme to ensure Electrical Works requirements and timescales are included
  • Co-ordination of multiple contractors and other stakeholders, in particular those which incorporate element(s) of electrical works
  • Ensuring all electrical works are constructed and tested in accordance with the works information
  • Reviewing and approving RAMs that include working with installation, commissioning, operating, and maintaining LV electrical systems. Contribution to ensure adherence to quality processes including ITPs, MARs, etc
  • Managing the strict adherence of project safety, Health and Environmental processes and requirements at all times

Person Specification:

  • Be electrically qualified with a recognised electrical apprenticeship of training and/or an industry recognised electrical qualification within the following ranges, Degree, HND/HNC, OND/ONC, BTech 4 or 3, C&G, NVQ at Level 3 or above
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of working in a highly collaborative and team orientated environment
  • The ability to manage and control tasks of a team and sub-contractors
  • Be familiar with highways equipment, systems and installations for which appointment is sought
  • Have successfully completed an Electrical Authorised Persons training course approved by the Authorising Engineer and repeat it at intervals not exceeding three years (recognise training provided by PPL and Develop Training)
  • Have previous experience in the development, implementation, monitoring, administering, and auditing of electrical safe systems of work
  • Demonstrate the use of electrical control documentation and application of Electrical Safety Operating Procedures
  • Have good knowledge of the IET Wiring Regulations and hold the current City and Guilds Level 3 Award in the requirements for electrical installations BS7671
  • Hold a current HEA ECS Electricians card and portfolio
  • Hold a current First Aid At Work certificate
  • Other training such as IPAF, TWS, TWC, AP, First Aid, etc to be listed on CV
