In response to COVID-19, we spent March and April working tirelessly to release new features to help frontline staff. This includes a video consultation solution that went from zero to 35,000 daily consultations in the space of 8 weeks. We then spent November and December building a vaccination booking system that has already saved frontline staff many hours and helped with vaccination uptake for vulnerable people in the UK.

Unlike many healthtech companies, we are a software provider, not a healthcare provider. We allow existing health and care systems (starting with the NHS in the UK) to deliver technology-enabled care, free from any AI/Blockchain-hype.

Life as a Lead Engineer at accuRx

We are looking for a Lead Engineers to join us and help shape the future of our product and technically grow our engineering team.

Working closely with our CTO and VP of Engineering, you will pioneer development and be relied upon as one of our greatest technical experts. As a Lead Engineer, you’ll lead on areas that will drive innovation on our products. You’ll scale and innovate our products like never before, as well as build brand new solutions. You'll play a key role in driving technical product choices as part of a cross functional team. You’ll be a technical coach and mentor to engineers to help us grow our engineering talent at accuRx.

You'll work closely with other Engineers, UX Designers, Product Managers, Researchers and our Clinical Leads. Together you will work in six week cycles to deliver specific product goals.

An exciting opportunity for a Tunnel Section Engineer has arisen on our Thames Tideway project.

Costain helps to improve people’s lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK’s energy, water and transportation infrastructures.

Thames Tideway Main Works East is a £604m Costain-Vinci-Bachy joint venture (CVB) to provide a new sewage storage and transfer tunnel from Chambers Wharf to Abbey Mills (MNTLD) and a connection tunnel between Greenwich Pumping Station and Chambers Wharf (GRECT).

As the Tunnel Section Engineer, you will be responsible to the Tunnel Agent / Sub-Agent for the execution of your individual responsibilities.

• Provide professional & technical support to the project team and the staff under your leadership
• Manage and ensure compliance with all Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) issues on site
• Act as the Emergency Person in Charge (PIC) for the shift where required
• Manage and control your section of the work according to agreed programmes, approved RAMS and ITP’s ensuring relevant QAQC records are taken and processed
• Conversant with all required documentation associated to the relevant section of work
• Working on an 10hr shift pattern with a 7 days on, 2 days off roster and every third cycle a 3 day break

Planning / Programme:

• Understand key milestones and priorities related to your section of work
• Work to the deadlines required by the programme
• Highlight change and shortcomings which require action
• Summarise quantities objectively, with an eye on apparent anomalies for simple programming
• Assist the Tunnel Agent in producing and updating short term (4-6 weeks) lookahead programmes using approved company systems
• Liaise with the Planner

Principal Duties, Responsibilities & Accountability:

• To be the Section Engineer for the shift, coordinating day to day and shift to shift logistics on site to permit the continual tunnelling operation of the TBM
• To ensure that all operations are properly planned, and that detailed Method Statements and Risk Assessments are in place for all activities prior to their commencement and ensure the continual review and compliance with these methods
• Maintain control of all the TBM consumables and ensure sufficient supply of all required materials and plant for the planned works
• Liaising with the required departments – procurement, survey, safety, quality, consents, SRG to ensure TBM production is not slowed
• Communicate with Tunnel foremen and pit boss’ to ensure full understanding of information provided
• Ensure that designs and permits are in place prior to the commencement of works in line with CVB procedures
• Provide accurate and timely responses to the Tunnel Agent and Tunnel Manager
• Set a high personal example of safety and environmental behaviour
• Monitor the work under your control to ensure that any unsafe work conditions and non-compliance with company policies and procedures are promptly remedied
• To work with design and engineering teams to plan the works and develop systems of work to ensure efficient safe execution of the works
• Maintaining the reporting requirements of the shift both internally and ensuring correct distribution of information
• Lead the safe review of working practices and strive for constant improvement in all activities
• Monitor progress and present information in a timely manner to allow accurate reporting in line with project expectations
• Manage the relationship between separate sections of work and allow collaborative & efficient outcomes for the good of the project
• Maintain motivation within the working team with 2-way dialogue and leading by example
• Develop and drive continuous improvement within the team
• Assist in the management of TBM consumables to ensure production is maintained. Order materials and maintain register of all orders placed and confirmed
• Provide guidance, encouragement and support within the CVB team, and develop the skills and competencies of the staff under your line management, support junior team members and ensure successful succession planning
• Contribute where necessary to documents required to obtain consents and liaise with consents team to ensure timely approval of consents
• Prepare and monitor week to week programmes in conjunction with the section foreman, coordinated with overall site programme and ensure necessary resources available with Tunnel Agent
• Monitor 4 weekly programme, mark up progress for review at the weekly site review meeting
• Prepare written risk assessments and method statements & ITP’s for the control of the works
• Ensure that testing / sampling of materials is carried out as required by the ITP
• Maintain good working relations with client / designer / supervisor, together with our supply chain
• Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time
• Establish and maintain close working relationship with buying department to ensure compliant advantageous procurement terms

Key Performance Requirements & Experience:

• Ensure construction is safely delivered to programme
• Construction is delivered within budgets and targets
• Assist in the personal development of all staff
• Successful experience as a site engineer in TBM works.
• Knowledge of construction procedures and working methods.
• Appreciate the need for temporary works and any outside influences affecting site operations.
• Understand, and check where necessary, all schedules such as reinforcement drawings
• Develop ability to monitor and interpret results and act on information.
• Understanding of geotechnical issues which can affect tunnelling
• Use your knowledge to plan routine jobs and determine the best process and procedure to mitigate key engineering and quality risks.
• PIC incident response understanding
• Experience in leading teams to deliver their best and development of junior team members
• Experience in TBM tunnelling ideally with Slurry machines
• Understanding of Slurry Treatment Plant principles

Qualifications & Training:

• Degree or equivalent level qualification in Civil engineering, Mining or Tunnelling
• At least 3 years in the role of Site/Tunnel Engineer
• SMSTS card
• CSCS Card
• TSTS and 6151 Training for underground access
• Working towards membership of a professional body (preferred)

What we need from you

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within a 5* environment, and will have a degree, certificate or equivalent experience related to maintenance and engineering 

Critical expertise & recent experience:

• Experience and knowledgeable on Electrical and Mechanical systems
• Good knowledge of Building Services, Air Handling Unit pumps, pipework lay out etc.
• Experience in having responsibility for testing and record keeping for fire, life and safety systems, taking remedial action on any Plant, Gas and Air Ventilation equipment in line with legal requirements and safety standards.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of appropriate hotel systems to support operational processes such as service optimization tool (Quore/Hotsos/Knowcross) and the Building Management System
• Has knowledge of appropriate standards relating to areas of accountability
• Qualification in plumbing or electricity is essential
