5.1 To be responsible in your position for the implementation of the Home’s Health & Safety Policy.
5.2 The Home has a full set of policies and procedures to enable you to work safely. An individual risk assessment is available for your post and you must be fully aware of the safe working practices, which are identified in that document.
5.3 You should always work in a way, which safeguards the health and safety of yourself and those working around you.
5.4 Creating safe practices for staff particularly with heavy lifting, cleaning and in the use of equipment.
6. To carry out any additional duties as requested by the Cook.
7. To receive training and supervision from the Cook.
8. To undertake any additional training and development programmes the Home may consider appropriate to enhance your contribution to the work at this home.
9. To attend any team meetings or other meetings as required.
10. To review on a regular basis the job description for your post and to agree any changes.
11. To Inform Cooks of any reasons why can not undertake any tasks

About you:
As Catering Assistant you will have a key role in the team for preparing and serving food to patients, visitors and staff in the dining room. You will also operate the central dish wash area, making sure that the equipment you use and the areas you work in are kept clean.

About the role
Spring Gardens is a 40 bed hostel for homeless clients based in Lewisham. We have a friendly Catering team of four who work hard to produce a quality catering service and a fantastic team of Support Workers. In addition, we have lovely garden space and are able to grow some of our own fruit and vegetables.
You will be required to cook and prepare healthy homemade meals for 40 residents working as part of a team, at times taking the lead when necessary. You will keep up with health and safety regulations, keeping the kitchen clean and tidy at all times and maintain stock levels, ensuring that rotation takes place when deliveries come in.
The applicant will be required to work on a flexible four week rolling rota including weekends and public holidays, including some split shifts.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with a flexible and friendly approach to our resident’s needs. You will need knowledge of health and safety in the kitchen, and taking in deliveries and rotating stock. You will need to have some knowledge of nutrition and cooking, however training will also be provided. You must be able to work independently or as part of a team.

Description of the roleNo two days are the same at Garrad House. Each day you will preparing either a delicious lunch or tea from locally sourced, fresh ingredients as well as assisting the other Cook with stock control, cleaning and so on.
But it's not all about cooking. Our Cooks also have a lot of interaction with the residents so you will help the Manager in the admission of new residents by assisting with their settling in. You’ll proactively encourage residents to be involved in the house; welcome and encourage their participation in activities. You will also have the responsibility for the residents’ welfare in the absence of the Business & Operations Manager and respond to any queries or emergencies.
Our Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will have a passion for cooking and creating exciting meals from fresh ingredients, appropriate for the residents. You should have the ability to multi-task, and be calm under pressure. Some flexibility with hours will be required to attend training, courses and meetings.
Suitable for someone who has the desire to make a difference to the lives of older people, and is looking for a role that is more than just a job. You should be highly organised, adaptable and able to work alone and take an active part in arranging activities and interests for the residents.
