Title: Director, Principia Lifelong Learning                                                                February 2021

Department/Office: Alumni & Field Relations / Advancement, St. Louis and Elsah campuses 

Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Senior Director, Alumni & Field Relations; manages PLL student workers, Summer Session, lecturers and travel event staff

 Summary: 

The Director of Principia Lifelong Learning (PLL) is primarily responsible for orchestrating and executing two robust programs that directly support the Alumni and Field Relations goals for Principia. Through PLL travel programs (both virtual and in person) and Summer Session (a two-week, in person adult education program based on the College campus), PLL is a critical component in engaging alumni and friends. The PLL travel program requires superb customer service skills as well as sophisticated budgeting and creative marketing. Summer Session is a treasured tradition at Principia that must remain strategic and relevant to new generations.  

This dual campus position resides in the Alumni & Field Relations team. The purpose of the PLL program is to engage alumni participation and advance Principia’s relationships primarily with alumni and friends. Full-time, 12-month position.  

Core Responsibilities:

Acts as a strong and innovative team leader and member of the Advancement team. Is an insightful strategist, creative visionary, and event producer. Actively creates partnerships across both campuses and throughout the world with alumni and friends. 

Plans, directs, and manages the execution, growth/quality, and evaluation of the PLL program activities in a timely and professional manner. The ultimate goal for these efforts is to keep Principia relevant to alumni and friends, increase Principia’s value to alumni and friends, positively impact enrollment, increase engagement, and cultivate financial support through both increased giving and program revenue.

 Work Performed: Essential Duties*

  • Set goals, strategies, and budgets for the Principia Lifelong Learning programs
  • Develop strategies to broaden appeal of our offerings, increase diversity in demographics and strengthen the value of PLL programs
  • Recruit, hire and train PLL faculty, student workers, and event staff
  • Manage assigned budgets and PLL financials 
  • Direct coordination of visual and technical elements of PLL’s website
  • Direct PLL marketing outreach
  • Develop lists and reports needed for all PLL mailings
  • Collaborates with Advancement Department activities and events as needed
  • Develops and maintain strong relationships with travel partners 
  • Directs multiple on-going projects
  • Develops connections and networks with a wide range of people, from current students to long-standing alumni

  • Maintain and respect confidentiality

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active (or pending) membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and/or in a Journal-listed branch church or society of The First Church of Christ, Scientist
  • Christian Science class instruction preferred but not required
  • Willingness to turn readily to God for guidance
  • Bachelor’s degree with significant marketing, personnel, and project management experience
  • Event planning, travel management, and/or volunteer organization experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Design Suite
  • Familiarity with Principia’s Early Childhood through College programs a plus
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally and work evenings and weekends
