Job Summary:
This position is responsible for designing, engineering and testing product handling equipment, for small parts like tablets or whole containers. Further the engineer will do quality checks during production at the vendors before installation and optimizations on site of the machines.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Perform final engineering according to Knapp process for the assigned project topics considering technical, financial, scheduling and installation requirements
  • Review design requirements and identify appropriate materials and technique to use in development of solutions
  • Support procurement and project management in the vendor selection process providing fundamental product analysis and technical verification of quotes
  • Design of Electro-Mechanical Systems using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Drafting, creating, reviewing, approving of layout drawings, Parts lists, BOM, permit / installation documents, electrical and manufacturing design drawings
  • Conduct research to test and analyze feasibility, design, operation and performance of product handling equipment (components and systems)
  • Perform analysis on technical designs and prototypes in development stage
  • Conduct quality checks during production and assembly
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, codes and Knapp Standards
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to ensure successful integration of the equipment
  • If needed assemble and test designed products
  • Provide knowledge about installation, configuration, and commissioning of the system to the on-site team
  • Collect info about changes done to the system on site, prepare as-built documents after completion of project
  • Review and conduct quality check of complete project, prepare list of needed changes and possible process modifications to improve future projects
  • Help improve standards within the department to facilitate increases in engineering efficiency
  • Attend technical reviews of projects in the sales phase and provide help to solution engineers to increase hand over quality of a new project
  • Engineer is responsible for coordinating aspects of the project to:
    • Meet or exceed technical specifications
    • Ensure adherence to the schedule
    • Help to achieve budgetary goals
    • Provide technical support to customers and internal staff
Preferences:
  • 5+ Years’ experience with specifying, designing, engineering and approving standard material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work independently without daily supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle vendor negotiations internally and externally from a technical standpoint
  • Strong time management & organizational skills
  • Excellent math, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • BS Degree in ME, EE, or IE
Computer Skills
  • Strong experience utilizing CAD tools is a hard requirement
  • SolidWorks, design of CNC machines parts, sheet metal, GD&T, Design of electro-mechanical systems
  • Understanding of PLC programming and capabilities/limitations of PLC controllers
    • Proficient in the Microsoft office suite with focus on: Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint
Working Conditions and Environment:
  • Overtime (occasional) as required by work. However, this is a salaried position, so overtime does not equate to additional pay or benefits.
  • Travel is required up to 50% on a monthly basis but long term should be approximately 20%
  • Ability to travel by air both domestically (US) and internationally (primarily Austria and other parts of Europe as well as Canada)
