MERCHANDISE SPECIALIST

Job Summary

Responsible for club merchandising, ensuring merchandise is available for sale in proper quantities throughout the store, delivering a positive service experience to members, overseeing and directing the work of merchandise department team members, and acting as a key holder for the store and as the manager on duty.

The Specialist is responsible to function as the Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned. While MOD, the Specialist has responsibility to manage the entire Club, including all Club departments, to ensure excellent Member engagement, to address any and all concerns brought to the MOD’s attention, and to escalate any concerns, as appropriate. The Specialist could be assigned as MOD 50% or more of the Specialist’s scheduled shifts.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborates with other Merchandise Specialists to develop effective and productive merchandising teams through selection, training, managing, evaluating performance, coaching, motivating, and disciplining, when necessary.
  • Delivers a positive service experience to members.
  • Communicates with managers regarding staffing levels and team member performance.
  • Ensures merchandise is properly displayed and has appropriate signage. Ensures merchandise is available for sale in proper quantities throughout the store.
  • Follows and executes company directives related to merchandising, resets, and sales initiatives within the allotted time. Ensure sales floor standards are maintained.
  • Recommends merchandising changes to enhance sales.
  • Operates a forklift in a safe and efficient manner. Inspects forklifts prior to use and follows established safety standards.
  • Maintains all club policies and procedures. Ensures that all team members follow safety and sanitation guidelines. Validates steel and pallet safety walks, and addresses and communicates any identified safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for steel and pallet safety. 

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Forklift operator required.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete required training and certification processes.
  • Must demonstrate leadership capabilities, including supervising cross-functional teams, training team members, and driving and communicating results.
  • Prior forklift operating and merchandising experience preferred, but not required.
  • High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, grocery and/or management experience is preferred.
  • Open shift availability required.

Environmental Job Conditions

  • Most of the time is spent standing and moving about continuously on hard surfaces. Frequent need to position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, as well as to bend, climb, crawl, kneel, push, pull, reach, move side to side, stoop, and climb ladders/step stools. Requires use of a pallet jack to pull and push pallets. Requires operating a forklift.
  • Frequently requires lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Usually perform job in a comfortable environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. Occasional exposure to temperature extremes in freezer or cooler units. There may be occasional exposure to company approved chemicals and cleaning agents.

THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:

 

Qualified candidates will have 3 to 5+ years of relevant, fast-paced retail management work experience or other relevant work experience and possess:

 

  • A Cosmetology license where required by the state
  • 2 years of management experience, including cosmetology management license where required by state law
  • Financial management experience: success with driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expense
  • Proficient with basic technology (e.g., POS system, Microsoft Office programs, and Apple devices)
  • Advanced competency in services, including sales, guest experience and product attachment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of board of cosmetology regulations and hiring requirements
  • Leadership management: experience with attracting, developing, and motivating top talent, swiftly adapting to change and leading others through the change-curve, developing collaborative relationships with others, and leading and influencing
  • Retail management: proven ability with monitoring inventory levels, achieving operational excellence, driving a service culture and executing merchandise directives

  6. Ensure smooth workflow within department by cooperating with co-workers and superiors.  Strive to continuously improve job performance. 
  7. Follow sanitation guidelines to maintain department conditions.  Ensure compliance with health regulations, weights requirements, and measures and labeling laws according to company, state, federal and OSHA regulations. Dispose of trash properly.

  • Verifies that the merchandise is properly priced; correct price and SKU, correct spot on the item, and with the appropriate tag. If a price is incorrect, removes the incorrect price completely
  • Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions.

The Special Project Reserve Merchandiser position is responsible for assisting other Anderson Merchandisers associates in execution of client projects. Employment will be on-going on an as needed basis.

What would you do in this role?

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES, include but are not limited to the following:

  • Execute all required tasks, projects, resets, displays with accuracy, by following all provided instructions
  • Maintain company, client and retailer confidentiality
  • Must be able to lift objects and product up to a maximum of 50 lbs with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects/products up to 35 lbs., in addition the ability to lift heavy objects up to 100 lbs with assistance from another associate

Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cordially greets and interacts with guests as they enter the store to determine type of merchandise desired
  • Demonstrates and sells merchandise to guests utilizing knowledge of the products and emphasizing their selling points
  • Provides information to guests or fellow associates regarding products, services of retail stores, and general information within Dorney Park
  • Monitors the location for any merchandise that is out of place or on the floor. Gathers the items and places them back in their correct locations
  • Cleans and maintains shelves, counters, windows, floor racks, soda coolers, ventilation grills, and tables as needed
  • Keeps work and guest areas clean, neat, and organized with general cleaning duties (i.e. empty trash, mop, vacuum, sweep, dust, etc.) 
  • Maintains fully stocked shelves, counters, tables or display racks with appropriate merchandise at all times. If there is an insufficient amount available to fill a display, relays that information to the team leader
  • Monitors all areas of the location to avoid and/or detect theft to assist in maintaining park assets. This includes investigating why the security gates are sounding to determine the cause
  • Receives and retrieves boxed stock into or from stockroom/under-stock areas to maintain full retail displays and sales promotions
  • Uses cash register to correctly total price and tax on merchandise selected by guest
  • Receives payment of cash or credit cards and makes correct change. Uses proper cash handling, checking for counterfeit bills, as well as proper credit card procedures
  • Works as a team player with other associates, supervisors and managers
  • Verifies that the merchandise is properly priced; correct price and SKU, correct spot on the item, and with the appropriate tag. If a price is incorrect, removes the incorrect price completely Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Meets Cedar Fair's attendance requirements as outlined in Cedar Fair's attendance policies.
  • Adheres to Cedar Fair's Rules of Conduct including specific costuming and grooming standards as outlined in Employee Guidelines and other park/division specific policies and procedures.

MERCHANDISE SPECIALIST

Job Summary

Responsible for club merchandising, ensuring merchandise is available for sale in proper quantities throughout the store, delivering a positive service experience to members, overseeing and directing the work of merchandise department team members, and acting as a key holder for the store and as the manager on duty.

The Specialist is responsible to function as the Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned. While MOD, the Specialist has responsibility to manage the entire Club, including all Club departments, to ensure excellent Member engagement, to address any and all concerns brought to the MOD’s attention, and to escalate any concerns, as appropriate. The Specialist could be assigned as MOD 50% or more of the Specialist’s scheduled shifts.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborates with other Merchandise Specialists to develop effective and productive merchandising teams through selection, training, managing, evaluating performance, coaching, motivating, and disciplining, when necessary.
  • Delivers a positive service experience to members.
  • Communicates with managers regarding staffing levels and team member performance.
  • Ensures merchandise is properly displayed and has appropriate signage. Ensures merchandise is available for sale in proper quantities throughout the store.
  • Follows and executes company directives related to merchandising, resets, and sales initiatives within the allotted time. Ensure sales floor standards are maintained.
  • Recommends merchandising changes to enhance sales.
  • Operates a forklift in a safe and efficient manner. Inspects forklifts prior to use and follows established safety standards.
  • Maintains all club policies and procedures. Ensures that all team members follow safety and sanitation guidelines. Validates steel and pallet safety walks, and addresses and communicates any identified safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for steel and pallet safety. 

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Forklift operator required.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete required training and certification processes.
  • Must demonstrate leadership capabilities, including supervising cross-functional teams, training team members, and driving and communicating results.
  • Prior forklift operating and merchandising experience preferred, but not required.
  • High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, grocery and/or management experience is preferred.
  • Open shift availability required.

Environmental Job Conditions

  • Most of the time is spent standing and moving about continuously on hard surfaces. Frequent need to position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, as well as to bend, climb, crawl, kneel, push, pull, reach, move side to side, stoop, and climb ladders/step stools. Requires use of a pallet jack to pull and push pallets. Requires operating a forklift.
  • Frequently requires lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Usually perform job in a comfortable environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. Occasional exposure to temperature extremes in freezer or cooler units. There may be occasional exposure to company approved chemicals and cleaning agents.
