Employer:
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust
Department:
Ophthalmology
Location:
Royal Bolton Hospital, Bolton
Salary:
£82,096 - £110,683 per annum

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2008 and, in 2011, we became an integrated provider with community health services joining the trust. Covering a catchment area that also incorporates parts of Bury, Wigan and Salford, we deliver hospital and community based services from the Royal Bolton Hospital in Farnworth and from 20 health centres across Bolton, to a catchment population of 320,000 people. We have a CQC rating as good overall and we have some key areas of outstanding practice with an outstanding rating for being well led at every level.

Buildings, names and models of care have changed over the centuries, but one thing has remained constant and is prevalent among our 5,900+ staff members: the enduring commitment to providing the best health and care for the people of Bolton.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with Glaucoma Specialist interest to join the Ophthalmology Department. This is a substantive post made up of 10 PAs including Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery and 2nd on-call. The successful applicant will be expected to provide and develop the Glaucoma service with the existing consultants including the virtual glaucoma services.

With an already strong and diverse medical workforce of 11 Ophthalmology Consultants and 7 Associate Specialist Doctors, you will be joining a forward thinking, dynamic and inclusive team. The department has had a recent £1.1 million investment for redesign to improve flow and capacity. It also has had £500,000 investment in upgrading and expanding equipment to allow us to deliver state of the art services. The department has its own dedicated outpatient area on 2 floors and 2 dedicated Ophthalmic Theatres with dedicated staff and full access to these. There are ambitious plans to expand the Glaucoma virtual services run by AHPs and Technicians. There are dedicated IOP clinics set up to help the flow of activity.

The Ophthalmology unit offers a wide range of services, ranging from retinal, glaucoma, diabetes, occuloplastic, corneal, cataract, Neuro, Squint, emergency services and ocular motility. The unit provides training to Junior Doctors and strives to be part of Research, Innovation and Quality Improvement. The unit is committed to digital transformation and has used Open Eyes platform to transform the way we work including paperless working.

Having a good work/life balance is a priority and working in new ways is encouraged. Applications will be accepted from those who for personal reasons cannot work full-time.

For further information on what is required/expected please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

The post you are applying for will be subject to a DBS Check that is satisfactory and all other pre-employment checks that are required by the Trust.

Shortlisting details and interview arrangements will be communicated via email therefore please ensure you check your email account regularly following the closing date.

Please note - Whilst this is a 10 PA post, we are willing to accept part time applicants and negotiate this with the right candidate. We are also willing to accept applications from candidates who specialize in other areas such as medical retina and can participate in Glaucoma clinics.
