Duties and Responsibilities for the Leave Specialist:

  • Serves as the subject matter expert for employee leave programs in alignment with system-wide goals and strategies.
  • Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (OFLA, FMLA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.)
  • Coordinates all administrative aspects of leave including but not limited to: Recognizing qualifying events, ensuring eligibility, sending appropriate letters of notification, maintaining tracking system, and coordinating return to work agreements with managers, Payroll, Employee Health and Human Resources Representatives.
  • Independently approves and/or denies leave cases based upon provided documentation.
  • Assists employees in navigating through the leave process, providing individualized information and instructions pertinent to their situation. Informs employees of additional options such as ADAAA and personal leaves as appropriate and may initiate initial paperwork for such leaves. 
  • Advises managers on how to comply with leave laws, communicate with employees while on leave and appropriate entry of protected leave in the electronic timekeeping system. Proactively audits time and attendance system for accuracy, requesting historical edits or corrections as needed.
  • Coordinates and communicates effectively with other leave team members to standardize process and employee and manager training.

Skills and Qualifications for the Leave Specialist:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience 
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a Human Resources Department
    • Experience with leave administration is preferred
    • Certification in Human Resources and/or leave management preferred
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications
  • The majority of communication will be via email, must have good email communication

Essential Functions:
The HR Generalist will also be responsible for:
* Leading challenging conversations and interactions; go-to person for conflict resolution.  Receiving, investigating and responding to employee complaints from employees. Routinely consulting on and/or facilitating the resolution of employee and labor relations issues by working with managers, supervisors, employees, and union representatives.
* Assisting in the resolution of sensitive matters including, but not limited to: discrimination, harassment, coaching and counseling, performance documentation, discipline and discharge. Ensuring employee privacy rights are maintained.
* Assisting and supporting the Labor Relations Manager in the administration of the collective bargaining agreements across the organization, supporting management in maintaining all grievances from filing to arbitration, performing all necessary preparation work required to arbitrate unresolved grievances, conducting workplace interviews and investigations, and assisting with the management and maintenance of all Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges from filing charge to litigation.
* Supporting leaders in developing a work culture that embraces relentless innovation, professional interactions and adherence to core values in carrying out strategic initiatives.
* Assisting with Leave of Absence programs and processes; Creating and/or administering a return to work process.
* Exceeding industry best practices with regards to communications, timeliness, documentation, and customer service.

* Develop and provide training for operations leadership who oversee bargaining unit employees on how to uphold the negotiated terms of collective bargaining agreements.
* Implement and support labor relations strategies that are aligned with business unit and corporate initiatives and collective bargaining agreements.
* Work with operations, payroll, leave, workers compensation, safety, and human resources functions to ensure the terms of the collective bargaining agreement are properly adhered to and executed.
* Manage the resolution of disputes and complaints between the company and the union, doing so in partnership with company leadership, human resources, and legal counsel.
* Consult with leaders in operations, finance, HR, and legal, on labor relations strategies and dispute resolution progress.
Basic Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s Degree in HR or Labor Relations
•    At least five (5) years in human resources and labor relations with at least three (3) years of labor contract negotiation experience
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Basic Qualifications)•    Master’s Degree

Make a difference and support your community during these trying times! We are hiring a Leave Specialist for a non profit medical provider to coordinate employee leaves of absence in accordance with state and federal leave laws and best-practices related to leave administration.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Leave Specialist:

  • Serves as the subject matter expert for employee leave programs in alignment with system-wide goals and strategies.
  • Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (OFLA, FMLA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.)
  • Coordinates all administrative aspects of leave including but not limited to: Recognizing qualifying events, ensuring eligibility, sending appropriate letters of notification, maintaining tracking system, and coordinating return to work agreements with managers, Payroll, Employee Health and Human Resources Representatives.
  • Independently approves and/or denies leave cases based upon provided documentation.
  • Assists employees in navigating through the leave process, providing individualized information and instructions pertinent to their situation. Informs employees of additional options such as ADAAA and personal leaves as appropriate and may initiate initial paperwork for such leaves. 
  • Advises managers on how to comply with leave laws, communicate with employees while on leave and appropriate entry of protected leave in the electronic timekeeping system. Proactively audits time and attendance system for accuracy, requesting historical edits or corrections as needed.
  • Coordinates and communicates effectively with other leave team members to standardize process and employee and manager training.

Skills and Qualifications for the Leave Specialist:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience 
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a Human Resources Department
    • Experience with leave administration is preferred
    • Certification in Human Resources and/or leave management preferred
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications
  • The majority of communication will be via email, must have good email communication

Job Details for the Leave Specialist:

  • 6 month duration to start
  • Regular Shift: Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm
  • $22.63/hr
