Purpose and Scope:

Set up, operate, clean, or tend machines to mix, blend or agglomerate materials such as food grade chemicals, liquids, or color pigments.

Safety Expectations:

  5. Clean and maintain equipment, using hand tools. Display proper use of hand tools.
  6. Collect samples of materials or products for laboratory testing.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide daily production support as defined by the Manufacturing Manager to support daily production requirements. Tasks may change daily depending on needs of the business (i.e. special projects, to start ups, to rapid turns on a wet clean, to pre-weighs, etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Skilled and knowledgeable in multi production functions, including, but not limited to, machine operations, various machine/area cleans, machine set up, and product start up
  • Operate forklift in a safe and efficient manner
  • Transfer material as needed
  • Learn all relevant aspects of the computer system including inventory transfers
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Safe Quality Food (SQF) and company procedures
  • Adhere and comply with all safety policies including reporting any unsafe acts or near misses
  • Help promote and support company health and safety policy practices and procedures
  • Assure adherence to all elements of SQF systems and policies
  • Always performs tasks safely and comply with GMP policies
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted is required
  • Learn all aspects of the computer system including production transferring, issuing and inventory accuracy
  • Thoroughly and accurately document production paperwork
  • Fluid bed agglomerator machine operating knowledge
  • LOTO and machine cleaning knowledge

  • Label and store materials in correct storage locations

This position is responsible for the efficient day to day operation of the production rooms as well as the development and management of the production team. This position is also responsible for motivating the safety and continuous improvement culture while achieving operating goals to meet growth expectations.

  1. Responsible for department incident rate consistent with IFP company goals. Must maintain department safety rules compliance and be a positive safety role model.
  2. Responsible for training all department employees on safe work practices.
  3. Responsible for ensuring an organized, clean and safe work environment.
  4. Ensure procedures and work practices have appropriate safety review and new equipment is reviewed for proper guarding, safe operating procedures, and lockout tagout.

  12. Coordinate and participate in PM (preventative maintenance) tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.

  17. Set up of daily productivity board and track production to board targets. Maintain detailed and organized data records for the department.
  18. Ensure all necessary supplies, materials and WIP are stocked on the line for daily production needs. Verify correct incoming materials and ingredients are in the right area, ensure conformance to established standards and complete the material usage form.
  19. Assist in managing production supplies. Deliver Kanban cards to designated purchasing area for replenishment of supplies.
  20. Assist in development of work instructions, training and auditing team members and assisting in special projects.
  21. Perform audits within the production areas for paperwork accuracy and compliance with SOPs, GMPs, and Safety procedures.
  22. Assist Commercialization group with scale-ups and customer trials.
  23. Lead others in maintaining good housekeeping and an orderly work area. Support 5S initiatives.
  24. Assist in implementation of productivity improvements. This person will also help plan ahead to improve utilization of resources.
  25. Support and assist as needed in maintaining and improving operations of the production rooms.
  26. Must continuously assess employees for selection, promotion and discipline situations.
  27. Provide frequent, specific performance feedback and coaching to all Operations employees, including proactively addressing performance issues.
  28. Assure that Production team members are appropriately trained, coached and developed in support of individual career development paths and IFP growth plans. Identify potential successors within the team and develop them towards this goal.
  29. Conduct timely and thorough employee reviews giving accurate and constructive feedback to reports.
  30. Meet or exceed customer expectations for on-time delivery and quality of product delivered. Communicate Customer Satisfaction to the team using quantitative measures.
  31. Coordinate and conduct meetings with direct reports individually and in regularly scheduled team meetings. Include support staff as needed to maximize efficient operations and foster “One Team” approach.
  32. Plan ahead for the shift to ensure and approve full utilization of resources. Ensure consistent application of Operational and other Company procedures.
  33. Document and monitor procedures and processes to eliminate variation and promote sharing of knowledge.
  34. Cross train in related functions and assist others in obtaining cross-functional capabilities.
  35. Must develop cooperative relationships with other departments
  36. Plan, control, and measure all aspects of the production operations area
  37. Support, understand, and coach others in understanding and use of lean tools.

Education and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma/GED
  2. Solid background/work experience in manufacturing (2+ years). Food or pharmaceutical a plus.
  3. 2+ years leadership experience.
  4. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and 5S organizational tools. Six Sigma training a plus.
  5. Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, ERP)
  6. Mechanical aptitude/trouble-shooting ability
  7. Knowledge of food GMP's a plus
