Job Summary
The LMT Research Engineer participates in building millimeter wavelength receivers in two laboratories at UMass, Amherst and maintains existing receivers at the Large Millimeter Telescope through travel to Mexico. The engineer will actively design and build new receiver components using unique micro-milling equipment, debug specialized microwave electronics, and design and construct one-of-a-kind cryogenic enclosures and equipment for receivers.

Role and Scope of Position: Responsible for the engineering and project management of major distribution substation projects. Coordinate all engineering activities related to assigned projects and for interfacing with all project stakeholders, including Asset Management, Engineering, Stores, Substation Construction, Convex, Test Personnel, Contract Administration, Legal, Real Estate, Accounting etc. Identify project scope, procure needed engineering and material resources, and manage the engineering work in a manner which ensures compliance with safety, budget, and schedule requirements. Essential Functions: •Engineers and manages highly complex substation projects including, but not limited to, new substation additions, transformer and switchgear additions, and major protection scheme modifications. •Ensures that all designs are in compliance with Eversource Substation Standards, Utility Industry Standards, and are applied in a safe manner. •Ensures development of accurate schedules and engineering resource projections. •Working with Asset Management's projects need statement, determines and interprets the project scope. •Represents the project to all Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies. •Creates and approves the conceptual design package for the project (general arrangement, site development, anesthetic/environmental, safety) and approves all detail electrical engineering drawings. •Provides expertise to all Electric Operating Companies for major substation equipment/apparatus including, but not limited to, power transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and circuit switchers. •Manages and tracks project costs for Eversource and manage project engineering costs for Eversource to ensure compliance with financial requirements. •Coordinates and interfaces with all involved project team members •Provides overall project direction and coordination of all disciplines from the start in Engineering through Construction until acceptance by the end users for Eversource projects and through the engineering phase for Eversource projects. •Initiates corrective action as necessary on problems throughout the life of the Eversource project and through the engineering phase for Eversource projects. •Coordinates/completes project engineering close-out and works with Accounting on cost reconciliation. •Responsible for ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. •Handles all internal and external communications. EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Education • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (preferred); Bachelors Degree in Finance, Business or the equivalent degree will be considered. • Masters Degree is preferred and Project Management class work is desirable. • PMP Certification is preferred. Experience • 8 years of related experience Familiarity with Project Management methodologies is highly desired. Knowledge/Skill • Demonstrated ability to investigate and solve problems, analyze data, write reports and make presentations. • Possesses the ability to cope with deadlines, manage time, set priorities, define roles and responsibilities, and make decisions. • Ability to run meetings, motivate others, and interact with others at all levels of the organization. • The ability to schedule, plan and manage numerous complex transmission projects concurrently. • Self starter with strong communication skills, including listening, speaking and writing skills • Individual leadership abilities, planning skills, decisiveness and customer focus • Knowledge of Project Management principles and practices • Excellent leadership, teambuilding, coaching, problem solving, interpersonal and motivational skills required. • Ability to develop skills to prepare presentations and expert witness testimony for local and state regulatory presentations. |
