An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Public Health Staff Nurse in the 5-19 service in Hertsmere. We are looking for a motivated band 5 to join our workforce to deliver high quality care to our service users in an integrated model with Family Support Services.
As well as working with individual children and young people, our focus is on developing local public health plans with schools and the wider community.
You will:

  • be a skilled team player working in a skill mix team under the guidance of a Specialist Practitioner (5-19)
  • have excellent communication skills to use with a variety of clients, professionals & staff
  • have a full valid driving licence and access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

HCT Public Health Nursing Team 5-19 is an innovative service that is using electronic health assessments at key stages to help identify individuals requiring early intervention pathways as well as determining public health needs of local communities. HCT also uses Chat health text messaging service and has implemented two health websites for use by children, young people, families & professionals.

The service is committed to mobile working and experience of electronic record keeping would be an advantage although full training will be given.
This role will be based in Hertsmere. Flexible working/annualised hours considered. The core service is provided between 9am and 5pm (working hours can be flexible within these times).

Barnet Emergency Department is an exciting place to work. We are passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. We are looking for band 5 Adult Nurses who want to be part of a caring and compassionate team.

As well as treating acutely unwell adults, our department has an integrated Urgent Care Centre and Paediatric Emergency Department. The Urgent Care Centre within the Emergency Department has Emergency Nurse Practitioners s working with the GPs to deliver an efficient and responsive service for patients presenting with minor injuries and illness. Furthermore, we are a Trauma Unit receiving trauma patients from across Hertfordshire and North London.

We are a busy unit receiving up to 90 ambulances per day and over 120,000 patients per year. We pride ourselves on our high quality, safe and effective handover process being forward thinking in our approach for our patients.

In addition to this there is a consultant led care of the elderly team who assess older patients for appropriate admission or, with our team of therapists, organise enhanced social care support in the community.

Training and support for all staff is key to a happy team and safe patient care, this is why we have a training and development team dedicated to the development of our nurses. We are committed to developing and supporting a modern career framework for our nurses in the Emergency Department and you will be supported every step of your Emergency care career pathway by our senior nurses and Clinical Practice Education team. Positions are currently available on 5A, the solid tumour cancer ward within the Bart’s cancer Centre based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, which has an excellent reputation for providing excellent care and for staff development and support.

5A is a busy 22 bedded ward caring for cancer patients at all stages of their cancer journey. The ward has 10 single side rooms and 3 x 4 bedded bays. We provide chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy care to our patients delivering treatments and managing / caring for the side effects. We are also providing more end of life care to our patients with many choosing the ward to be their preferred place of death having built a rapport with staff over the years that many have received treatment with us.

We care for a diverse population of patients with no two days being the same. We are a strong supportive team which is essential and integral in the provision of care and support to our patients and staff.

As a band 5 we expect you to be enthusiastic motivated and wanting to develop learn and grow. Leading care from the bedside, providing excellent care and role modelling to students at all times. You would be enrolled on the Bart’s health preceptorship programme for 9 to 18 months, encouraged to attend all acute care skills training and also attend cancer services development days and other site based training relevant to patient care and your personal and professional development.

Opportunities grow with experience with opportunities to undertake chemotherapy training and assessor training for student nurses as the ward is a learning environment for students on placement from City and London Southbank Universities.

The ward can be a challenging environment to work in but is very rewarding and you will get immense job satisfaction in the care that you are able to provide and also in the development of staff whether student, health care assistant or staff nurses as they grow and flourish with the experiences you share.

St Mary’s Hospital is a designated children’s and adult major trauma centre with a dedicated 24/7 children’s emergency department.

We serve both our local population receiving patients through our emergency department and wards and we are also a tertiary referral centre receiving patients from other NHS Trusts through a dedicated paediatric retrieval service.
