Primary Function/Purpose:

The Infant/Toddler Teacher is accountable for ensuring that the Child Care Program is a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment for each child, where safe concepts are enhanced, independence is encouraged and individually respected.  The Infant/Toddler Teacher will function as a team-leader, responsible Teacher Assistants.  This person, in the absence of the Child Care Director, is responsible for the infant/toddler classroom operating on a sound basis, meeting legal and practical standards and objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITY

 The Infant/Toddler Teacher reports to the Child Care Director and in the Child Care Director’s absence, the Head Teacher.

 STAFF RESPONSIBILITES:

CURRICULUM:

1. Plan, implement, and monitor curriculum that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of the children.
2. Give leadership to curriculum, evaluation and updating.
3. Stimulate staff with new ideas, resources, and materials.
4. Insure that curriculum is in keeping with Icahn House childcare philosophy.

 PARENT INVOLVEMENT

1. Provide handbook and relevant program updates for parent information.
2. Develop and maintain communication links with parents.
3. Encourage and provide a variety of ways for parents-volunteers to participate in the program.
4. Ensure that families are appropriately oriented into the Childcare Program.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

1. Supervise and delegate responsibilities to staff as deemed necessary.
2. Maintain individual folders for each child containing evaluations, emergency numbers, and all personal information.
3. Maintain chaperones and volunteer lists.
4. Establish and maintain an attractive, clean, and safe physical environment.
5. Observe health and development of children, and report illness within the Program to the Director.
6. Complete necessary record keeping and reporting to contracted food service program.
7. 7.Utilizing the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) - Client Assistance and Re-housing Enterprise System (CARES) complete incident reports as needed.
8. 8.Work collaboratively with the Social Service Department to ensure that members of both teams are aware of any concerns/issues that have arisen with children in our care.

OTHER

1.   Must obtain Department of Health Food Handler’s Certification within four (4)   

      months of being employed.

1. Must be available to rotate shifts and classroom assignment at Director’s    

    discretion, and/or as needs of the business require.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 Bachelor’s Degree in child development, early childhood, elementary education, or related field; with a minimum of two (2) years working in a child care setting with some supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Student Support

• Assist lead teachers through in-class support, lesson planning, grading, data analysis, and other administrative duties.
• Provide additional instruction for our students in need of extra support through one-on-one sessions and small-group instruction.
• Collaborate with teachers and case managers to ensure all requirements of students’ IEPs are met.
• Do whatever it takes to support all students.

Cultural Alignment

• Serve as Council Coach (advisor) to a small group of students, if needed.
• Communicate with students and their families regularly and proactively.
• Teach and enforce the school-wide, clearly defined systems, structures, and rules at all times.

Personal Development

• Engage fully in a coaching relationship including observations and feedback meetings with Instructional Coaches.
• Work collaboratively and participate actively at faculty meetings and in professional learning teams.
• Continue to develop professionally to ensure students attain ongoing improvement in academic achievement, particularly in literacy.

Qualifications and Certifications

• New Jersey teacher certification eligibility preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Urban education experience preferred but not required.

Job Summary

The Classroom Assistant serves as a co-pilot to the Teacher and Teacher Assistant. They are in charge of keeping bulletin boards up to date, training all new assistants, and assisting with certain aspects of the lesson plan.

Qualifications and Skills:

• As an entry-level position, the ideal candidate for this position will have their High School Diploma or GED, flexibility for scheduling purposes, great written and verbal communication skills, and a passion for helping children unlock their true potential. Experience at a licensed childcare center is preferred but not required. We will train the right person. Must be able to pass a background check !!
• Must be able to relate well to parents, children and other staff members. 
• Must communicate effectively, have an energetic personality and be functionally literate in English.
• Must have good attendance possess organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to prioritize.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, training sessions, and academy events as requested.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Lead Teacher with lesson plans.
• Decorate classrooms along with bulletin boards. 
• Helps headteacher communicate with parents (daily reports).
• Help with cleaning/ upkeep of the classroom. 
• Prepare materials for activities and daily lessons.
• Help set up sleeping arrangements for nap time. 
• Help the kitchen staff with food distributions when meals are served.
• Open/ close classrooms as needed.
