The Neonatal Dietetic Assistant position would include: assisting in developing/monitoring nutrition care plans with a focus on the care of pre-term and term neonates with complex nutritional needs while, overseeing of the Milk Preparation Room, including the analysis, preparation and fortification of breast milk and formula, inventory, stocking and the entering of orders into Meditech. This role would be responsible for feeding guidelines as well as policy and procedures compliance audits as they relate to the feeding of infants in the nurseries. Participation in student education and research as required.

Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is the only system in Ontario providing specialty care to people throughout the entire life cycle, from pre-birth to old age. HHS serves the densely populated south central region of Ontario and is also a referral centre for patients from elsewhere in the province. With six hospital sites and six specialized healthcare facilities, which includes MCH, HHS has the largest hospital-based workforce in Ontario – 15,000 staff, physicians and volunteers.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at McMaster Children's Hospital (MCH) is a 70 bed unit providing care to the sickest neonates within the Haldimand Brant, Waterloo Wellington, Hamilton and Niagara region. The NICU employs over 350 staff comprising of nurses, physicians, dietitians, social workers, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, clinical fellows and program fellows. In addition there is a provincial Neonatal Transport Team (TT) available 24/7 to facilitate stabilization and transfer of critically ill neonates from less acute hospital centres to the NICU (including other provincial centres). The Transport Team provides service to over 550 babies per year across the region and province. With over 1200 admissions per year to the NICU (babies transported in by the TT and inborn), the MCH NICU is the largest NICU in Ontario and Canada.
