HHS serves the densely populated south central region of Ontario and is also a referral centre for patients from elsewhere in the province. With six hospital sites and six specialized healthcare facilities, which includes MCH, HHS has the largest hospital-based workforce in Ontario – 15,000 staff, physicians and volunteers.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at McMaster Children's Hospital (MCH) is a 70 bed unit providing care to the sickest neonates within the Haldimand Brant, Waterloo Wellington, Hamilton and Niagara region. The NICU employs over 350 staff comprising of nurses, physicians, dietitians, social workers, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, clinical fellows and program fellows. In addition there is a provincial Neonatal Transport Team (TT) available 24/7 to facilitate stabilization and transfer of critically ill neonates from less acute hospital centres to the NICU (including other provincial centres). The Transport Team provides service to over 550 babies per year across the region and province. With over 1200 admissions per year to the NICU (babies transported in by the TT and inborn), the MCH NICU is the largest NICU in Ontario and Canada.

QUALITY CARE AIDE (Temporary, Full-Time) – Wyndham Manor

 

Quality Care Aides (QCA) are invited to apply for Temporary Full Time Quality Aide positions to work at our 128-bed long-term care home located in Oakville, Ontario

 

Reporting to the Resident Program Manager and under the direction of the Registered Staff the Resident Assistant is responsible for assisting the nursing staff in tasks that require no hands-on care of the resident. Duties include: transporting residents to programs, dining room and appointments within the Home; answering call bells, delivering messages to the nursing staff, maintaining organization in resident’s rooms and maintaining supplies, assisting with resident nutrition including feeding residents and providing 1:1 resident support.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                

  • Transport resident to onsite programming, dining room and internal appointments; accommodates residents’ right to choice.
  • Performs tasks such as: cleaning spills; making beds and changing linens; maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment in the Home including the resident’s room; labelling of personal grooming items; putting away personal laundry; disinfecting high touch surfaces and regularly organizing resident closets and drawers.
  • Assists with nutrition and feeding, including but not limited to: distributing clothing protectors for meal times; setting up the dining room for meal times and clearing dishes after meals; assisting with feeding of residents through encouragement and coaching.
  • Active screening of all staff and visitors prior to entry to home and upon exiting
  • Engaging residents in social activities
  • Arranging and assisting with video calls
  • Assist resident with hand washing before and after meals.
  • Provides 1:1 resident support
  • Answer call bells and communicate residents’ concerns to staff
  • Collaborates with residents, families and team members to maintain a positive, supportive and safe environment for all
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and advocates for the resident/family individual needs and preferences.
  • Communicates positively with other staff, residents and families
  • Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to resident

QUALIFICATIONS, Skills & Abilities

 

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working with a population of older adults
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to client centered care
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have a completed Vulnerable Sector Check (within 6 months); and a current 2 step TB skin test (within a year).

What You’ll Do:

  • Waste receptacles that are emptied into the collection vehicle must be placed back on the resident’s property, flipped upside down at the curb, in the same place that they were removed from.
  • Garbage bags or cans can weigh up to 50 lbs. and need to be lifted from the ground up approximately 2 feet into the hopper.
  • You will be required to make in excess of 800 residential stops per day.

Job Summary:

As a member of Facility Support Services, the Porter will safely and efficiently transport patients, equipment and miscellaneous items within the confines of the facilities buildings by various methods including by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed as directed.
