GENERAL SUMMARY
Central Transport Service provides safe, courteous, and timely "patient centered" transport of patients, patient equipment and patient related items throughout Brigham and Women's Hospital. Escort Transporters spend most of their day managing the more challenging transport assignments, training staff, reporting and /or refering all complex or unresolved issues to the supervisors and completing general escort responsibilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Transports patients in stretchers, beds or wheelchairs to the test sites for testing and back to their rooms once the test is completed. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, treatment areas and other patient services. Transports specimens to the lab, as required and transport patients to lobby areas upon discharges.
  • Receive assignments via Pagers and two way phones from dispatchers or supervisors. Enter pick ups and completion of assignments in the bed system by using the telephony systems as trained
  • Responds to simple patient requests, communicating more complex needs to the RN. Provides supportive customer service, functioning as part of the patient care team and demonstrating appropriate behavior in interactions with staff, patients and visitors.
  • Uses germicidal wipes and disposable gloves to disinfect transport equipment prior to patient transport and at the completion of the assignment.
    • Follows infection control guidelines and safety protocols when transporting patients and patient equipment.
    • Follow proper safety protocol when assigned to pick up patients from the Helipad.
    • Transports, cleans, tags and returns to designated storage area: IV poles, monitors, wheelchairs, stretchers, pumps, scales, lift and other patient equipment as directed by supervisor
    • Maintains neatness and organization of work and storage areas. Collects, disinfects and stores transport and patient equipment.

    Qualifications
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • 1 year experience as an excort at BWH.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
    • Ability to stand, carry, push and pull 50-80 lbs.

    • Ability to operate elevator, radios, pagers, and other equipment in a professional manner

My Life My Choice is a survivor-led pioneer in the fight to end the commercial sexual exploitation of children. Our fervent conviction is that no child should be bought or sold. It is our daily fight — our strategic and urgent endeavor. We offer a continuum of survivor-led services, including Survivor Mentoring and intensive case management; exploitation prevention groups and solutions; and professional trainings and advocacy. Since 2002, My Life My Choice has served more than 3,100 youth and trained more than 18,000 providers, in Massachusetts and nationally.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Case Manager will serve as an integral part of My Life My Choice’s growing Survivor Empowerment Team. This position will support efforts to continue to expand and deepen service provision to young survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and youth at very high risk of exploitation by providing trauma-informed case management, coordinating logistics for mentee group work, working closely with the Survivor Mentoring team to ensure wraparound support for all mentees, and providing administrative support as needed. This position reports to the Youth Services Manager.

As case manager, you will:

Ÿ Provide trauma-informed case management to a caseload of mentees (exploited and/or high risk youth) in partnership with our survivor-led team including, but not limited to helping mentees meet needs for housing, employment, education, legal advocacy, health, etc.

Ÿ Coordinate logistics and administration for a range of activities and services, including but not limited to groupwork, transportation, gift drives, and community building events, etc.

Ÿ Support the data collection and evaluation efforts of case management and groupwork.

Ÿ Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and businesses to enhance educational, employment, and enrichment opportunities for mentees.

Ÿ Conduct community outreach as needed.

Ÿ Invest and involve yourself in diversity, equity and inclusion work throughout MLMC.

Ÿ Attend supervision meetings as well as staff meetings and regular trainings.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Ÿ Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education or a related field.

Ÿ 2+ years working with trauma-impacted adolescents.

Ÿ Knowledge of, and experience working with, commercially sexually exploited children preferred.

Ÿ Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

Ÿ Commitment to supporting and promoting My Life My Choice’s survivor-led model.

Ÿ Ability to work independently as well as create positive working relationships within multi-disciplinary teams.

Ÿ Positive attitude and belief in the hope of recovery from commercial sexual exploitation for adolescents.

Ÿ Flexibility, good judgment, organizational skills, and reliability required.

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for transport of patients, specimens and errands to other units, special study areas and laboratories throughout the hospital complex; Incumbent retrieves ED equipment from patient care units and is responsible for internal ED patient transport.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transports patients to inpatient units, clinics and special study areas.
Delivers specimens to those laboratories not on the pneumatic tube system
Transports deceased patients to the Morgue.
Retrieves and tracks equipment owned by Emergency Department and ambulance companies.
Runs errands as needed by clinical and Administrative Staff.
Provides internal transport/escort of patients within the Emergency Department.
Responsible for acknowledging and reporting an emergency situation, moving and lifting patients, being familiar with the operation of the oxygen tanks, recognizing other equipment and understanding special needs of pediatric patients and those in traction.
Counts and checks condition of Emergency Department stretchers. Transports broken stretchers to Metal Shop for repair.
Ensures each stretcher has a full oxygen tank in each basket. Patrols ED and removes empty oxygen tanks to appropriate storage.
Transports used code carts to Exchange Room and delivers replacement code cart.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Ability to read, speak, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to push, pull and move patients up to 300 pounds.
Ability to lift items weighing 50 pounds.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Successful completion of on-the-job orientation and training.
Working knowledge of Safety, Universal Precaution, and OSHA guidelines.
