Logistics Coordinator

Logistics Coordinator will work very closely with the Purchasing/Inventory manager and report to the Executive Vice President. A Logistics Coordinator facilitates communication between production, sales, and distribution stages to promote a healthy and efficient supply chain. A successful Logistics Coordinator will have the ability to manage freight in and out of multiple facilities with several logistics partners to ensure active and planned shipments are going to be successful. We are considered an essential business but also offer some flexibility during these COVID times for some remote work depending on the situation. The right candidate will take pride in their work and have a drive to meet or exceed the customers expectations.

Position Requirements, Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Requirements & Competencies
    • Associates degree, preferably with experience in CPG supply chain logistics.
    • Strong communication, organizational, technical & problem solving skills with analytical and technical experience.
    • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, navigate vendor web sites and attention to detail.
    • Computer proficiency required including advanced Excel. NetSuite is a plus.
  • Responsibilities & Duties
    • Maintain Customer Supply Chain
      • Customer focus – have an in-depth knowledge of key customers and anticipate their impact on all elements of the supply chain.
      • Respond to and resolve customer supply chain inquiries and requests.
      • Maintain contingency plans for time sensitive operations to meet customer needs.
        • Holiday schedules, plant closings, unscheduled absentees, customer issues, system malfunctions, inventory exceptions, transport equipment issues, weather.
      • Investigate customer non-compliance claims to determine cause and prevent future occurrences.
      • Monitor customer supply chain report cards and provide copies and summary to senior management monthly.
      • Reviewing purchase orders, sales orders, and shipping documents to ensure accuracy.
      • Reviewing and approving bills and invoices.
      • Develop processes that make the supply chain more efficient and organized.
    • Planning and Managing transportation
      • Arrange LTL/FTL transportation between vendors, third party manufacturing locations, distribution centers, and customers.
        • Communicate with transportation and distribution center resources to meet customer fill rate and on-time delivery expectations.
        • Insure safe inventory levels while maximizing truck utilization to minimize transportation and distribution warehouse cost.
        • Resolve issues and collect reimbursement for transportation claims.
      • Other duties, special projects and assignments as requested.

Responsibilities

Principle Responsibilities

  • Analyze the daily schedule from Messer National Operations Center to insure continuous product supply by managing daily driver availability and coordination with maintenance staff to provide equipment resources necessary.
  • Manage third party contractor support for the daily schedule in times of major logistical challenges as directed by regional management (i.e. major outages, on-site shut downs, etc.).
  • Manage driver's hours of service in accordance with Messer policies and Federal/State regulations. On a daily basis, review location driver hour availability with NOC planners to prevent driver fatigue.
  • Daily oversight and analysis of previous days completed trips insuring driver compliance with routing and customer supply levels meet demand requirements.
  • Local supervision of all logistical activities to insure local inventory does not fall below red line levels on day to day basis.
  • Provide real time after hours support for all driver and customer activities supporting central team at National Operations Center. 
  • Assist Transport Manager with potential employee recruitment and screening.
  • Coordinate scheduling of all new hire and ongoing training activities to meet Messer and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Oversight of third party contract carrier operations including review and processing of carrier invoices for accuracy and payment.
  • Assist Transport Manager with local SHEQ plan including development of safety talk/safety meeting material, monthly site inspections, coordination of Non Conforming Customer Site improvement plans and daily walk around Good Catches.
  • Manage equipment resource availability while working with maintenance team to insure preventative maintenance in accordance with Messer requirements.
  • Daily review of driver paperwork, data input and data flow for transport related systems and processes. Provide real time coaching support to insure quality pass through of information to the regional BPE team.
  • Assignment to other Transport locations for the purpose of providing on site management support during vacations or other absences.
  • Provide on site support for Transport tasks such as LiMMS audit preparation, Responsible Care certifications, ISO certifications and regulatory audits/inquiries.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly coordination of Driver Performance Index (DPI) and other performance related tools to include data scrubbing when necessary. Using DPI data, supervisor will identify opportunities for positive feedback and develop coaching plans when necessary.
  • Provide support to all local Transport employees through regular formal and informal observations such as LeadSafe engagements, NCCS site visits, driver ride alongs, plant walk around, etc.

Qualifications

Basic:

• High School diploma• Minimum of 5 years' experience in the transport field

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred

Other:

• High degree of knowledge of DOT, OSHA and Hazmat regulations• Familiar with PM based maintenance programs• Strong degree of computer literacy• Highly proficient in all Messer Distribution systems (Gold, XATA, NeXIS)• Excellent communication skills - requires extensive communication with office staff, drivers and customers• Ability to influence people through coaching and mentoring for continuous improvement
